This interactive course prepares clinicians for the multidisciplinary Obstetric and Neonatal Quality and Safety Certification (C-ONQS) offered by the National Certification Corporation (NCC). Through a series of case studies, interactive knowledge checks, videos, and brief post-tests, learners will review quality and safety concepts in the obstetric and neonatal areas. Concepts include tools evaluation and data collection, threats to patient safety and strategies for positive change, review of Donabedian’s Dimensions of Quality and application to the clinical setting, ethical principles related to caring for all patients, and more.

Description: This chapter provides the clinician with information on perinatal quality and safety, including definitions of maternal and infant mortality, causes of increased maternal mortality and morbidity including racial and ethnic disparities, threats to perinatal safety, and strategies for quality improvement. Review of this chapter may assist the clinician in preparing for the multidisciplinary Obstetric and Neonatal Quality and Safety Certification (C-ONQS) offered by the National Certification Corporation (NCC).
